Weathering Emotions is an immersive, interactive museum experience at the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum designed to help children and families explore and process emotions – especially grief – through the metaphor of weather. Visitors can control simulated weather in a “Sound Cloud,” practice mindful movement guided by ABC meteorologist Ginger Zee, share memories at a grief station, affirm themselves in a mirror display, tell emotional stories with blocks, feel a tornado’s wind, and build rainbows through play .
The exhibit incorporates immersive technology and multi-sensory interactivity: voice-guided mindful movement, dynamic weather sound clouds, wind tunnels, responsive lighting and projection (e.g., lightning), and tactile storytelling stations. Accessibility features woven into the design ensure inclusive engagement.
Printer/Producer Fabrication: Meta4Mat. Construction/Installation: EV Construction and Apexx Electric.
