Archives Invites Visitors to Be Inspired

December 27, 2018

The West Michigan Graphic Design Archives, housed at the Zhang Regional Collections Center on the campus of Western Michigan University, invites visitors to tour its facility and view its collection. An in-person introduction to the contents and services of the Archives is invaluable to design students, educators, researchers, and practitioners.

The Archives offers tours of its LEED-silver-certified facility, which preserves materials in climate- and light-controlled conditions. Visitors can request in advance to see projects of their choice from the collection of over 600 pieces, or view a preselected representation of work. Projects included are from leaders in the discipline who have influenced the world of graphic design – from right here in West Michigan. Be inspired by some of the best!

Visitors can include the Archives in a tour of Kalamazoo cultural highlights, including the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, the Kalamazoo Valley Museum, the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center, and the Richmond Center for Visual Arts (also on Western’s campus).

Linda Powell, director of the West Michigan Graphic Design Archives, points out features of the Brass Quintet poster to a group of students from the Ferris State University Graphic Design program.
