AIGA Hosts The Archives Series: Transform
September 10, 2019
The fourth event in The Archives Series hosted by AIGA West Michigan is planned for Thursday, October 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The location will be the newly expanded Newell Brands Design Center, in Kalamazoo, both a showplace and work site for multi-disciplinary design teams.
The theme, “Transform,” includes special effects that go to levels–sometimes dimensions–beyond standard offset printing. Included from the West Michigan Graphic Design Archives collection are pieces that are screen printed, stamped, embossed, or engraved; they may include fasteners, unique folds, special screens, bindings, attachments, die cuts, thermography, movable parts, split fountains, or literal nuts and bolts. The special guest for the evening is Marlene Capotosto, long-time production manager at Herman Miller, Inc. Marlene has been an invaluable liaison between designers and printers, researching what’s possible and interpreting between the two worlds while garnering respect and admiration from both for her resourcefulness, patience, and dedication. Marlene will be available for conversation and small-group discussions about some of the projects on display that tested production capabilities.
